Publisher's summary

Leading from Anywhere is the best book on remote work I’ve ever read — incisive, original, and eminently practical. Read it — and take notes!” (Daniel H. Pink, author of When, Drive, and To Sell Is Human)

The ultimate guide to leading remote teams, tackling the key challenges that managers face — from hiring and onboarding new members from afar to building culture remotely, tracking productivity, communicating speedily, and avoiding burnout

It’s undeniable that we’re entering a new era of remote work. While many leaders seek to run business as usual, why settle for the usual when remote teams allow us to work even better? The research shows that employees are more productive and engaged when they have the freedom to work from anywhere.

Which means leaders need the skills to lead from anywhere.

In this meticulously researched, refreshingly practical book, top business thought leader David Burkus provides managers with the field guide to leading remotely, packed with everyday examples and illuminating insights. Structured around the life cycle of working on a team, Burkus tackles the key inflection points and challenges that remote managers face, from taking the team remote and adding new members to communicating effectively and quickly, managing performance, keeping the team engaged, and even helping them strike the right balance between work and life.

Leading from Anywhere provides everything you’ll need to survive and thrive as the leader of a remote team — something all leaders will need to consider themselves from now on.

Both Long Over Due, Yet Perfect Timing

As someone who has been freelancing for years, and as someone who has been trapped within the corporate walls of yesteryear…all I can say is that this book perfectly sums up everything both employees and employers need to know of regarding remote work. The material was comprehensive, well researched and easily digestible. Invest 5 hours with Leading from Anywhere and you’ll be prepared to make improvements to your remote life by the sixth hour.

Practical guidlines

The book lays out very good practical guidlines and tips for remote work beginners but also for someone who's experienced. While the author is also narrator, he knows how to emphasize key points.

Very actionable book!

I rarely read new biz books, but had to dig into this one after hearing David on an interview with Dorie Clark. It's fantastic! This isn't your average WFH book, it's really tangible and immediately relevant. I had a whole list of actions to take after nearly every chapter. I'm sure my team is as thankful for this book as I am. Truly made me a better virtual leader. On 1.5x, it's a quick listen and completely worth the time.

We went remote

We went remote at the beginning of Covid and have scaled from 7 to 43 right now and will be closer to 100 by EOY. This book has brought some great hurdles to problems we are currently addressing. Loved the applicable suggestions. Also, easy to follow on audible while doing my training rides. Bought the book as well. Because I wanted the info and stats in it.

An Essential Guidebook

As a remote worker since 2012 and manager in the remote working environment, I found this book full of new and very helpful information I can use immediately. It was also confirmation of some things I wish I had known in the beginning but had to learn the hard way.

The way it is organized makes it easy to read and reference. It is full of essential information for the remote work force that will make new employees transitioning to remote working more successful. I will be making it a must read for my new team members.
